Community Public Charter School
The Community Public Charter School is an Albemarle County public middle school that features concentrated teaching styles in order to redirect struggling students towards scholastic success. The school accepts middle school students from all feeder patterns and those students may return to the high school of their district or continue on to Murray High School, the charter high school. The school enrolls 40 students and with limited numbers priority is given to those students with literacy issues. The current principal of the Community Public Charter School is Ashby Kindler.[1]
History
The Community Public Charter School, was founded in 2008 and originally located at Burley Middle School. The school features a personalized, small group setting and utilizes William Glasser's Choice Theory in order to promote self-esteem and self-management. The school allows no student to fail, instead working with each student toward success in learning essential skills.[1] CPCS will move to the Murray High School campus in the fall of 2015. The move reduced physical space and presented new challenges. [2]
Funding concerns
In the summer of 2015, the school made a request for additional county funds to guarantee funding for some of the instructions at a cost of an additional $190,000 a year. [3]
