Formed in 2005, Charlottesville Tomorrow's mission is to inform and engage the public by providing clear, non-partisan information and research on land use, transportation, and community design issues with the confidence an informed public will make decisions that will protect and build upon the distinctive character of the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.

Values

Charlottesville Tomorrow’s work is guided by the following core values:

  1. Our information and approach is non-partisan and objective
  2. We respect the unique character of the Charlottesville-Albemarle community and recognize that it shapes our quality of life today and tomorrow
  3. We trust an engaged citizenry to make informed decisions that will benefit the community as a whole
  4. We believe the democratic process works best in an atmosphere of open government and transparency
  5. We value and work to foster cooperation and mutual understanding between Charlottesville, Albemarle, and the University of Virginia

Activities

Charlottesville Tomorrow is a source of in-depth information on growth and development issues before local government in the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle. Charlottesville Tomorrow’s information is distributed to the public through its website, in e-mail alerts, in printed local election voter guides, on weekly radio programs, and in local print media.

Activities include:

  • information sharing to build community knowledge
  • research on quality-of-life issues
  • community engagement—ensuring the public knows when and how to get involved in community decisions
  • non-partisan local election coverage

Partnership with the Daily Progress

In August 2009 the Daily Progress began publishing stories written by Charlottesville Tomorrow, contributed at no cost.[1].
