Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)
The Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is one of 384 geographical region in the United States with a relatively high population density at its core and close economic ties throughout the area.[1] The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the City of Charlottesville with Albemarle County for statistical purposes.
The general concept of a metropolitan or micropolitan statistical area is that of a core area containing a substantial population nucleus, together with adjacent communities having a high degree of economic and social integration with that core. As of September 2018, there are 384 metropolitan statistical areas and 542 micropolitan statistical areas in the United States.[2]
