The Charlottesville Fire Chief is the top executive rank or commanding officer in the Charlottesville Fire Department.

Appointment

Since 1922, the fire chief has usually been appointed by the Cit Manager who oversees the running of the fire department.

Duties and functions

Administrative

The Fire Chief reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day tasks of running the firefighting organization. Such tasks include: planning, directing and managing all firefighting, community risk reduction, and fire service activities of the City.

Salary

The starting salary, as of June 14, 2020, is between $89,247.86 and $178,495.71 annually.[1]
