The Charlottesville City Office of Communications & Public Engagement is a division of the City Manager's Office. The position of Director of Communications & Public Engagement is selected by the City Manager and is responsible for city-wide communications, including press releases, web content, social media, produced video, ad copy, major City events and more. The Director also serves as the official City spokesperson.[1]

Afton Schneider serves as the Director of Communications & Public Engagement. She began her role on September 6, 2023.[2]

David Dillehunt is the Deputy Director of Communications & Public Engagement. He oversees the City's Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access television stations as well as the Charlottesville Community Media Center.[3]

Ric Barrick, Director of Communications (2005-2012) - resigned abruptly from his position on March 21, 2012, citing stress related to an investigation into procurement fraud by Rob Schilling.[4]
