The Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards is a group of volunteers dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of trees to the ecosystem. They are also involved in efforts to increase the tree canopy in the region.[1] They offer classes on how to identify area trees.[2] The organization was founded in June 2008.[3] The organization's president for 2011 is Phil Stokes.[4]
The group holds training classes [5] and offers vouchers to area residents to plant trees. [6]
In 2016, the group is working with others in the area to plant trees on Route 20 between Piedmont Virginia Community College and Monticello Avenue. [7]
