They put a circus on each year. City Council waived the fees in 1991. [1]
Nativity scene lawsuit
On December 2, 1987, the Albemarle Board of Supervisors voted 4-2 to allow the Jaycees to display a nativity scene on the grounds of the County Office Building at their expense. A lawsuit was filed against the county for allowing the religious scene to be depicted on government property, and the display was ruled as unconstitutional. [2]
