The [[Central City Commission]] was a group formed in 1971<ref>Bringing Downtown Back to Life: Programs That Create Viable Local Economies. Rep. Pew Charitable Trusts. The commission served as the "private" elements in the public-private partnership that led to the creation of the Charlottesville [[Downtown Mall]].
