Cavalier Inn
The Cavalier Inn was a two-diamond AAA hotel located at the intersection of U.S. Route 29 and University Avenue that was demolished in the summer of 2018. [1]
The inn had been owned by the University of Virginia Foundation and managed by Marshall Hotels and Resorts. [2].
Plans to demolish to prepare for the future
Over many years, the University's Board of Visitors considered plans to redevelop 14.5 acres of property at the corner of Emmet Street and Ivy Road called the "Ivy Corridor." Several of the proposals have called for demolishing the Cavalier Inn in order to develop the property and add more green space. [3]
In February 2017, UVa architect Alice Raucher told the PLACE Design Task Force that the university operated under the assumption the structure will come down. [4] The structure is expected to be demolished in the summer of 2018. [5] [6]
Several parcels around the current structure will become part of a new hotel and conference center. [7]
