  • January 2 - The 14th decennial census began this day, with eight-five thousand enumerators engaged in counting the men, women and children of the United States and collecting data on resources of the nation. The census was expected to be completed within two weeks. The population was estimated at between 107 and 112 million compared with 92 million in 1910.[1] At the completion of the month long census, the Census Bureau determined the resident population of the United States to be 106,021,537, an increase of 15.0 percent over the 92,228,496 persons enumerated during the 1910 Census.
