C-VILLE Weekly
C-VILLE Weekly is a free alternative newsweekly distributed on Tuesdays and available online at their website.
History
Hawes Spencer and Bill Chapman founded the paper as a bi-weekly in 1989.
Spencer was ousted as editor in 2002, leading to his creation of The Hook. Former staffer Cathryn Harding was named editor of C-VILLE to replace Spencer, among the defection of several staff members to the new paper[1].
The paper was previously owned by Portico Publications Ltd., based in Charlottesville, which also published weeklies in Augusta, GA and Columbia, SC. In April 2011, C-VILLE's ownership transitioned to C-ville Holdings, LLC at the time it merged[2] with the parent company of The Hook. C-VILLE Weekly sold the Blue Ridge Outdoors publication in 2004.[3]
