Brownsville Elementary School
Brownsville Elementary School is an public elementary school that serves western Albemarle County and Crozet, providing pre-K through 5th grade. The school is part of the western feeder pattern. Brownsville opened in September 1966 and as of 2012, the school enrolls 653 students and employs 85 faculty and staff members.[1]

Renovations and additions
In 2009 Albemarle County invested in the school, expanding the cafeteria, building a new gymnasium, and creating 12 new classrooms. The construction also increased the school's energy efficiency rating. As a result, the school became the first in Virginia to be certified under the U.S. Green Building Coouncil's "LEED for Schools" program.[2]
