The Board of Architectural Review is a nine member citizen board appointed by the City Council that is responsible for protecting individually designated historic properties and properties within Architectural Design Control districts within the City of Charlottesville.

The Board reviews changes to the exterior of designated properties. Their review includes new building construction, alterations, building additions, and demolitions. Some minor changes to the exterior of a property, such as paint color and signs may be reviewed administratively by the City staff.

The Board generally meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, starting at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall.
