Events
- 1956 – Chief U.S. District Judge John Paul Jr. (1883 – 1964) issued one of the earliest school desegregation orders in Virginia. Judge Paul's historic decision, that the Charlottesville public schools end segregation, set off the state's "massive resistance" to the Supreme Court school decree. [1] Nominated by Republican President Hoover in 1931, Paul was confirmed to the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia by the United States Senate in 1932, when Republicans controlled the Senate by a one-vote margin.
- 1989 – New Piedmont Virginia Community College president Deborah DiCroce is introduced to the Charlottesville City Council. [2]
