Apex Clean Energy
Apex Clean Energy is a Charlottesville-based company.
Projects
In late October[when?], officials with the company filed an application for a special use permit in Botetourt County for a wind farm. [1] They filed a more detailed application with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in May 2016. [2]
In October 2019, the Commonwealth of Virginia agreed to purchase energy from the site, which would feature 550-foot tall wind turbines atop North Mountain. Governor Ralph Northam announced the deal, which is part of a goal to have 30 percent of energy used by state agencies to come from renewables by 2022. [3]
New Headquarters
The company announced they would open a new headquarters in downtown Charlottesville[when?]. The project will be developed by Riverbend Development. [4]
Ground was broken for the eight-story building on October 15, 2019. [5] Apex will occupy the top three floors of the 187,000 square foot building and will rent out the rest. The building has been designed by William McDonough. [6]
