Annie Wells (1844-1927) was married to Beverly Wells, who fought for the Union during the Civil War with the United States Colored Troops.[1] Wells was profiled by the the University of Virginia's John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History in 2017, as part of their "Black Virginians in Blue" digital project.

Wells was born into slavery on December 24, 1844, in Frederick County, Maryland.[2] She married Beverly Wells on July 3, 1880, and they lived in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. Annie may have had a previous marriage, but the details are unclear. She and Beverly had two children: Hester and Richard, who were both born on May 20, 1885.[2] Beverly died on May 22, 1895, at the Freedman's Hospital, and he was buried in Section 27 of Arlington National Cemetery. Annie eventually secured a widow's pension. She died on November 1, 1927, and is buried beside her husband in Arlington.[2]
