The Reverend Alvin Edwards is a former City Councilor and former member of the Charlottesville City School Board. He served as Mayor from 1990 to 1992. He resigned from the board on October 31, 2010[1].
Edwards cast the lone vote against allowing traffic to cross the Downtown Mall at Second Street NW[2]. Edwards was a proponent of having Charlottesville revert to town status.
In 1999, he reentered City politics by serving as the Chair of the Charlottesville Democratic Party[3].
Biography
Edwards was born in Joliet, Illinois and attended Joliet Junior College. He received his B.A. in Biblical Studies at Illinois' Wheaton College and got a Master's degree in divinity from Virginia Union School of Theology. As of 1999 he was pursuing a doctorate.
In 1981, he became Pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
