The Reverend Alvin Edwards is a former City Councilor and former member of the Charlottesville City School Board. He served as Mayor from 1990 to 1992. He resigned from the school board on October 31, 2010.[1]

Edwards cast the lone vote against allowing traffic to cross the Downtown Mall at Second Street NW.[2] Edwards was a proponent of having Charlottesville revert to town status.

In 1999, he reentered City politics by serving as the Chair of the Charlottesville Democratic Party.[3]

On August 23, 2013 he was appointed to the the Piedmont Virginia Community College Board for a term ending in 2017.[4] [5]
