Alfred S. Thomas Jr. is a former Chief of the Charlottesville Police Department. He was sworn in on May 23, 2016[1] and resigned in December 2017 following the events of August 12. News emerged in the fall of 2018 that he was continuing to collect a salary.[2]

Background

Before coming to Charlottesville, Thomas served as the police chief in Lexington, a post he was appointed to in 2010. He served for 20 years with the Lynchburg Police Department and spent five years in the United States Air Force. [1]
