The Albemarle County Planning Commission is an eight-member body that provides guidance to the Board of Supervisors on issues of planning and development.


Six of its members serve four-year terms and are appointed by each member of the Board of Supervisors to represent a specific magisterial district. A seventh is selected by the Board of Supervisors to be at-large and also serves a four-year term. One member is selected among the commissioners to serve as chair. [1] [2]

The President of the University of Virginia selects a non-voting member, a practice in place since 1986. [3]
