5th Street Extended Multimodal Improvements: Harris Road to 5th Street Landing is a candidate project in the fifth round of the Smart Scale funding process administered by the Virginia Department of Transportation. [1]

Project description

"This project would:

  • Add a left turn lane for southbound 5th Street traffic to turn onto 5th Street Station Parkway
  • Add a mid-block left turn lane for northbound 5th Street traffic to access the Food Lion Shopping Center
  • Restrict the left turn into Food Lion Shopping Center from northbound 5th

Street

  • Restrict the left turn out of Food Lion Shopping Center onto 5th Street

(northbound)

  • Add an eight-foot shared use path to both the east and west sides of 5th
