Events
- January 5 – 6 p.m., the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s safety committee is scheduled to discuss finalizing a policy to govern its use of surveillance cameras before sending it out for public comment. The policy under consideration would apply to all CRHA properties, although not all would get cameras. The CRHA safety committee has held several meetings since Dre’Shawn Rayvon McDonald was killed last November. [1]
- In 2020, the Police have responded to 14 shots-fired calls on South First Street in 2020, more than 2016 through 2019 combined, according to CPD data, leading to a push for crime enforcement and cameras from residents. CRHA has decided to finalize a policy to govern its use of surveillance cameras before installing them. [2]
- January 7 – Charlottesville Deputy City Manager Letitia Shelton announces her resignation [3]
- March 14 – is the start of Sunshine Week. This event occurs each year in mid-March, coinciding with James Madison's birthday and National Freedom of Information Day on March 16th. Established in March 2005 with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the event ends on March 20.
- November 8 – 2021 election: local elections in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
