  • January 10 – Charlottesville City School Board member Amy Laufer resigns ahead of family's move from the city [1], ending her eligibility to serve. Laufer was elected to her second term on November 3, 2015 and would had been up for re-election in November.
  • February 21 – The Charlottesville City School Board will appoint an interim member of the School Board to fill the vacancy created by the January 10, 2019 resignation of Ms. Amy Laufer. The interim member will hold that office until the end of Ms. Laufer’s term on December 31, 2019[2]
  • February 23, Saturday – On the House Floor, Delegate David J. Toscano (D) announced his retirement from House of Delegates (HD 57). He said he will not be seeking re-election to the House of Delegates at the November General Election and that he will continue to serve the people of Charlottesville and Albemarle County through the end of his seventh term on December 31st.


  • January 9 – City resident Sena Magill (D) made her announcement today that she would be a candidate for Charlottesville City Council. [3]
  • January 10 – On this Thursday, Lloyd Snook announces his council bid and joined "a quickly growing field of candidates for three seats on Charlottesville City Council". [4]
  • February 1 – Applications from qualified Charlottesville City voters were sought by the Charlottesville City School Board for the interim appointment to fill the vacancy created by the January 10th resignation of Ms. Amy Laufer, were due by 4 p.m. on this Friday. Charlottesville City Schools received applications from Ned Michie who served on the Charlottesville School Board from 2004-2017; Kristin Szakos, a writer who served on the Charlottesville City Council from 2010-2017; Graham Scharf.[5]
  • February 21 – On Thursday at 5 p.m. at CATEC, the Board will vote and announce its decision on the interim appointment of an interim member of the School Board to fill the vacancy created by the January 10th resignation of Ms. Amy Laufer.[6]
  • February 21 – The Charlottesville School Board unanimously voted for Ned Michie, who was on the board from 2004 to 2017, to serve the rest of 2019 to fill the remaining term vacated by Amy Laufer in January. He will not seek election to the seat. [7]
  • February 23David J. Toscano (D-Charlottesville), Delegate representing Virginia's HD 57, announced he will not be seeking re-election to office at the November 2019 General Election. His seventh term on December 31st.
  • March 5 – Del. Steve Landes (R-Verona) announced today that he will be a candidate for the Clerk of Circuit Court for Augusta County that he is not seeking re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 25th District.[8] He has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 1996, representing HD 25 which includes portions of Augusta, Albemarle and Rockingham counties.
  • March 11 – Filing opens at 12:00 p.m. for primary party candidates to submit their Declaration of Candidacy with Chairman of their local political party; non-primary party candidates do not need to file.
  • March 28 – Deadline for primary party candidates to submit their Declaration of Candidacy for the General Assembly today at 5:00 p.m.[9]
  • June 11 – Filing deadline for candidates seeking office in the November General Election, today at 7:00 pm.
  • June 11 – The City Council Primary Election will be held today.
  • November 5 – The General Election will be held today, polls open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
