The general election for 2017 will be held on November 7. Two seats for Charlottesville City Council are up for election as are three seats on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

Additionally, there are three seats open on the Charlottesville School Board and three seats on the Albemarle County School Board.

Charlottesville

City Council

The terms of Councilors Bob Fenwick and Kristin Szakos expire at the end of 2017. Szakos will not seek a third term. [1]

Heather Hill announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination on Feb 21. [2] Amy Laufer announced on Feb. 28. [3]

Fenwick will run for another term but has not yet made an announcement. [4]

Independent Dale Woodson has also filed paperwork. [5]

Independent Nikuyah Walker announced her candidacy on March 14, 2017. [4]

The Democratic primary will be held on June 13.

School Board

The Charlottesville School Board seats held by Ned Michie, Leah Puryear and Juandiego Wade are up for election in 2017. Wade and Puryear will seek reelection, but Michie will not. [4]

Albemarle County

In Albemarle County, the Jack Jouett, Rio and Samuel Miller magisterial seats are up for re-election.

Jack Jouett District

Supervisor

Incumbent supervisor Diantha McKeel announced she will seek a second term on the board on March 1, 2017. [6]

School Board

Incumbent school board member Kate Acuff will seek a second term on the board.

Rio District

Supervisor

Incumbent supervisor Brad Sheffield, a Democrat, is not seeking a second term. No candidates have emerged. Ned Gallaway will announce his candidacy for the Democratic nomination on March 8. [6]

School Board

School board member Pam Moynihan has announced she will not run for another term. Mary McIntyre is running for office for the first time as a candidate for the Rio District seat. [7]

Samuel Miller District

Supervisor

John Lowry announced his campaign for the Republican nomination on February 23, 2017. [8]

Incumbent Liz Palmer will seek another term but has not made a formal announcement.

School Board

Graham Paige will seek a full four-year term on the school board. He is being challenged by Julian Waters, a student at Western Albemarle High School. [citation needed]
