2013 election

The general election will be held on November 5, 2013, in which voters will select three members of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and two members of the Charlottesville City Council.

Albemarle County

The seats currently held by Dennis Rooker, Rodney Thomas, and Duane Snow will all be up for reelection. Thomas announced on December 5, 2012 that he will run for a second-term. Snow announced his candidacy for a second term on February 27, 2013. [1]

On April 3, 2013, Dennis Rooker announced he would not seek a fourth term for the Jack Jouett Magisterial District. Instead, he endorsed fellow independent Diantha McKeel. [2]

Charlottesville

The seats held by Dave Norris and Kristin Szakos will be up for reelection. Szakos has indicated she will be a candidate, whereas Norris has not. [3] [4]

The Charlottesville Democratic Committee has chosen to choose its nominees during the statewide primary on June 11, 2013. [5]

Szakos announced her candidacy for a second term on February 14, 2013. [6] At the time she was introduced by Wes Bellamy, who said he would not be a candidate. However, he changed his mind and announced on March 13, 2013. [7]

Special election for treasurer

Judge Edward Hogshire ruled that the city must hold a special election for treasure and it was held on April 2, 2013. [11] The Charlottesville Democratic Committee has chosen to hold a firehouse primary to choose its nominee. [5] Jason Vandever defeated John Pfaltz with 75 percent of the vote. [12]

Commissioner of Revenue

Two Democrats are seeking the nomination to succeed Lee Richards as commissioner of the revenue. Jonathan Stevens and Todd Divers are the two candidates vying to be the winner in the June primary. [4]
