Events
- February 4 – Charlottesville became the first city in the country to pass a drone resolution. In a 3-2 vote, members of the Charlottesville City Council (2012-2013) passed a resolution placing a two-year moratorium on the use of drones within city limits. [1]
- February 12 – The Charlottesville Planning Commission voted 6-0 to recommend denial of a rezoning for the Belmont Point subdivision. [2]
- May 20 – Charlottesville City Council approves human rights ordinance[3]that prohibits discrimination within the City. The ordinance established the Charlottesville Office of Human Rights, along with an appointed commission.
- May 21 – City Council voted 3-2 to approve the rezoning and critical slopes waiver for Belmont Point [4] The Councilors who voted for the project were Dave Norris, Satyendra Huja and Kristin Szakos. The no votes were from Kathy Galvin and Dede Smith. [5]
Deaths
- September 10 – Randy Lee McKinstry, 18, dies when his motorcycle slams into a GMC Yukon on East Rio Road that was turning left into Pen Park. Police say speed was a contributing factor, and this is the sixth traffic fatality in Albemarle this year.[6]
- December 8 – Richard "Dick" Hamilton Barrick - former Charlottesville Commonwealth's Attorney (aged 83) [7]
