  • September 10 – Randy Lee McKinstry, 18, dies when his motorcycle slams into a GMC Yukon on East Rio Road that was turning left into Pen Park. Police say speed was a contributing factor, and this is the sixth traffic fatality in Albemarle this year.[9]
