<< 1997 election | 1999 election >>

On May 5, 1998 Charlottesville held elections for two seats on the City Council.

City Council

Candidates Votes %
David Toscano (D) incumbent 2,589 57.55
J. Blake Caravati (D) 2,345 52.13
Michael Crafaik (R) 1,679 37.32
James King (I) 1,539 34.21

Voters could cast two votes, one for each of the two seats available, hence the percentages do not total 100%. [1]

Issues

At a press conference in late March, Michael Crafaik called upon the City Council to hold a plebiscite on the Meadowcreek Parkway.

"Let's not put in the hands of three council members a decision so crucially important to many thousands," Crafaik said. [2]
