Charlottesville

Voters in Charlottesville went to the polls to elect two members of City Council in the 1950 election held on June 13. The Democratic Primary was on April 3. [1]

Democratic Primary

Incumbents Gus K. Tebel and William R. Hill faced challenger Sidney D. Watson in the primary. Issues in that race included a bond referendum for natural gas lines, whether an African-American should be appointed to the School Board and the use of federal funds in public housing. [1] The League of Women Voters held a town meeting with these candidates on March 27, [[1950].

General Election

Francis Fife ran as an independent.

Republicans endorsed no candidates. [2]

The League of Women Voters held another a town meeting with the candidates on June 7, 1950. [3]

Tebel and Hill both won election.
