Charlottesville

Voters in Charlottesville went to the polls to elect two members of City Council in the 1950 election held on June 13. The Democratic Primary was on April 4. [1]

Democratic Primary

Incumbent Gus K. Tebell was on the ballot with William R. Hill and Sidney D. Watson in the primary. Issues in that race included a bond referendum for natural gas lines, whether an African-American should be appointed to the School Board and the use of federal funds in public housing. [1] The League of Women Voters held a town meeting with these candidates on March 27, 1950. Tebell and Hill were the two top vote-getters in the primary receiving 933 and 772 votes respectively. General Election

Francis Fife ran as an independent as part of the Independent Citizens Association. [3]


Republicans endorsed no candidates. [4]
