June 6 – D-Day:Operation Overlord commenced with the crossing of nearly 160,000 Allied troops over the English Channel to land on the beaches of Normandy, France

June 13 – In the 1944 election, little interest was shown by Charlottesville voters in the uncontested City Council election held this day. Mayor J. Emmett Gleason, Fred L. Watson and William S. Hildreth were the unopposed candidates for three places on the council.
