- June 2 – Alice Jackson is born in Richmond to Dr. James E. Jackson and Clara Louise Kersey. A life-long educator at various Black colleges throughout the country, Jackson became the first Black applicant to the University of Virginia in August of 1935 (her application was denied on the basis of race and "other good and sufficient reasons," according to a contemporary issue of the Richmond-Times Dispatch.
