In accordance with the 1899-1900 charter, all 12 seats on the Charlottesville City Council were up for election on May 23, 1901. The polls at the four precincts of the city were opened promptly at sunrise and were closed at sunset. Owning to the fact that Democratic ticket had no opposition, the total vote cast was very small, only 310. The Republicans, with few exceptions, refrained from voting. All of the Democratic candidates for Council and Constitutional Convention were of course elected. In the County, the old Board of Supervisors was re-elected, and the Democratic ticket was overwhelmingly elected.[1]
