Events

  • November 18 - Standard time in time zones was instituted. Prior to that, time of day was a local matter, and as with most cities and towns, Albemarle County used some form of local solar time or maintained a clock (as an example the timepiece at Cuckoo Tavern in Louisa County made famous by Jack Jouett's Ride in 1781) or a well-known bell, such as the Rotunda bell, maintained by the University’s bell ringer and janitor Henry Martin for over 50 years.[1]
