- July 1 – the Council of the Town of Charlottesville held the required organizational meeting after the May 1851 election. The council was composed of the elected Mayor B. R. Pace and the six member Board of Aldermen, C. D. Fishburne, president; C. H. Harman, W. C. Payne, M. Trieber, A. B. Heller and John West.[1]
