Charlottesville merchants began to pressure the legislature to improve the roads linking that city with the Shenandoah.[1]
- December 15 – Edgar Allan Poe drops out of the University of Virginia, saddled with debts [2]
- December 21 – A young Edgar Allan Poe leaves Charlottesville and returns to Richmond.[3]
