Deaths

• May 16 - Dabney Carr (aged 29), a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses and was married to Martha Jefferson, the sister of Thomas Jefferson. Carr and Jefferson were good friends and, fulfilling a boyhood promise, was buried in the Monticello graveyard. He was survived by his wife and six children, who spent much of their childhoods at Monticello. His sons included politicians Peter Carr, Samuel Carr and Dabney Carr (Judge).
