- January 1 - Charlottesville was founded as the Albemarle County seat by an Act of the General Assembly.[1] The ACT establishing the town of Charlottesville was passed by the Assembly of Virginia on November 15, 1761, when the name Charlottesville (in honour of Queen Charlotte, wife of George III) first appeared.
