1003 West Main Street is a contributing structure in the West Main Street Architectural Design Control District. It is the former occupied by the University of Virginia but was formerly home to supermarkets, a furniture store, and a bakery.

Architect William Atwood has filed a site plan for a six-story building called the Sycamore but was not constructed. [1]

History

The current one-story cinderblock and stucco building was constructed in 1948 to be a Stop & Shop grocery store owned by the Gleason family. It then became P & J's Market and then the Under the Roof furniture store.
