1001 West Main Street is a contributing structure in the West Main Street Architectural Design Control District. It is the former home of Team Tire and is know home to several restaurants. Starbucks is considering locating in this space.

History

Sometime before 1953, Albemarle Oil and Gas Company built 1 story, five room service station. In 1953, the company hired architect M. L. Tinnies to add steel supports to the concrete floor. Soon after, cars were sold from the this new showroom.

In 1965, the Charlottesville Oil Company made alterations to the building.

By the 1970's, the building became known as Knauff's Auto Service.

In 1989, gasoline storage tanks were removed from the site.

In 1995, the building was occupied by Don's Florist but a portion of the property was taken through eminent domain. [1]

Developer Mark Green has submitted plans to renovate the building that went before the Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review on January 20, 2015. [2]
