Richey died in a car crash in the the early hours of Tuesday December 12, 2023. Albemarle County police said they were dispatched to a reported single-vehicle wreck near the 1300 block of Owensville Road west of Charlottesville around 1:21 a.m. Tuesday. A set of skid marks in the northbound lane indicates that the vehicle was traveling in the direction of Richey's residence near the Rivanna Reservoir. The site of the crash is less than a mile and a half north of one of Richey's more popular restaurants: Duner's. The 47-year-old Richey, who was not restrained by a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokeswoman Abbey Stumpf told The Daily Progress. Richey was a father of two.
