Walters Building is a historically protected building constructed in the Victorian style located on the downtown mall. Current tenants in the three story building include the restaurant Bizou. Former tenants include The Hook. Addresses span from 117 West Main Street to 121 West Main Street.

A raised sign at the top of the building's front facade reads Walter's Building.

History

The lot was purchased for John L. Walters in 1893. At the time, a two-story duplex building dating from the mid 19th century was present on the site. The existing building was constructed in 1898. The first level was used as a furniture store known as J.H. Montague & Company. It was then a hardware store, but became a china store known as Covington & Peyton in the 1920's. The Walters family sold the property in 1923. The building was purchased by Jefferson-Lafayette Theatres in 1927 and the new owners subdivided it into two sections. The eastern side became the Monticello Lunch counter and the western side became a Piggly-Wiggly grocery store. [1]
