WVTW is a Public Radio-formatted broadcast radio station.[3] The station is licensed to Charlottesville, Virginia, serving communities in Albemarle and Greene counties.[1] WVTW is owned by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and operated under their Virginia Tech Foundation licensee.[1]
History
In 1991, WVTF added a full-power repeater in Charlottesville, WVTU (89.3). This frequency now broadcasts the Radio IQ service.[2][4]
In 1997, the station a transmitter to better serve western Charlottesville, WVTW (88.5).[2][4]
In 2009, the station opened a satellite radio studio, on Water Street, in the basement of developer Bill Atwood's Waterhouse project.[5]
