Early history

The Federal Communications Commission granted a construction permit on April 6, 1949 for a frequency at 1280 AM to be operated during the day. A two-year conditional license was granted on October 10 of that year. When it expired on November 1, 1951 the FCC granted a three-year extension.

The FCC approved a request to change the frequency to 1450 AM in August 1954. A second frequency change to 1400 was granted in 1956. The final AM frequency change to 1070 was granted on June 16, 1966.

The FCC approved a request to extend hours to the nighttime on September 27, 1954. [1]
