- 1806 – Lewis and Clark returned to St. Louis after their epic journey to the Pacific Ocean. The two-and-a-half years expedition, which is often considered one of the greatest exploratory quests in U.S. history, was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson shortly after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
- 1907 – Dr. Wilson C. N. Randolph, a leading member of the community, died.
- 1910 – Ora A. Maupin, served as Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue for 45 years, was born in Charlottesville.
- 1982 – Guthrie Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
