  • 1817 – The cornerstone for the first building of what one day would be the University of Virginia was laid on a rocky ridge about a mile west of Charlottesville.
  • 1906 – The University of Virginia (UVA) football team played a home game at Madison Hall Field against North Carolina Agricultural and Mechanical College (A&M). The final score was tied (0-0). In 1906 the Virginia Orange and Blue football team represented UVA as an independent during the 1906 college football season. Led by William C. "King" Cole in his second and final season as head coach.
  • 1915Henry Martin dies in Charlottesville. He was the head janitor and bell-ringer at the University of Virginia for over 60 years.
