November 8:

  • 1904 – In the United States presidential election, Charlottesville gave conservative Democratic nominee Alton B. Parker 83.55% of the 468 votes cast in the city, the total vote standing: Parker, 391; Roosevelt, 71. Incumbent Republican President Theodore Roosevelt easily defeated Parker, a New York judge, sweeping every US region except the South. Pine Knot, located in Albemarle County, would became a country home for the Roosevelts during the presidential years.
  • 1947 – Charlottesville residents were asked by City Manager, Seth Burnley to hold their consumption of water as low as possible for the remainder of the day as a result of a shortage caused by a break the previous night in the main supply line to the filter plant. It was estimated that barely a half million gallons remained on hand. Normally, the basins hold about 3,000,000 gallons.
