- 1905 – The seventh annual session of the newly formed Baptist General Association (Colored) of Virginia was held at the First Baptist Church (colored) on West Main Street.
- 1942 – The first course of the School of Military Government opens.
- 1963 – Sarah Mason Sandridge "Sadie" Matthews, an early woman suffrage activist, died in Charlottesville.
- 1991 – the Dave Matthews Band (DMB) played its first official paid gig at a warehouse on South Street in downtown Charlottesville.
