- 1781 – A 26-year-old Virginian, John "Jack" Jouett Jr. rode a dangerous forty miles from Louisa Court House and gave the alarm to Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and to the Governor and Legislature of Virginia then in session at the Albemarle Courthouse here, that the British under Tarleton were on their way to capture them.
- 1912 – The Edison Moving Picture Company arrived in Charlottesville to begin filming "Jouett’s Ride and Cornwallis’ Surrender" at Monticello and in the city.
- 1940 – the General Assembly of Virginia designated this day as Jack Jouett Day.
