  • 1761Allen Howard, an early settler of Albemarle County and namesake of Howardsville, died.
  • 1935 – Steady rains, snow, single-digit temperatures, and the resulting ice accumulation wreaked havoc on the Piedmont region. The James River at Scottsville crested at 22.30 feet above flood stage causing local merchants to move their goods to higher ground.
